MINEHEAD Cricket Club captain Gary Bennett is unlikely to play again this season after suffering a broken jaw in a game last Saturday. The 1st XI were playing visiting Potterne CC when Gary, who had opened the innings and had 12 runs under his belt, was hit by the ball. “It caught him in the cleft of his chin and broke his jaw,” said Minehead’s club secretary Barry Swann. The injured player was taken to nearby Minehead Hospital but because of difficulties with his breathing was transferred by ambulance to Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital. He underwent surgery the following day and is now recovering at home. “I went to see him on Tuesday and his jaw is obviously wired up and will be for a few weeks,” said Mr Swann. “The incident dislodged a few of his teeth and he’s on liquids only for a few days. “He’s OK but obviously not feeling great and I think he will probably be out of action for the rest of the season.” BT engineer Gary, who is married with two children, is well known in... read on
